Hi, I’m Lisa!
Come wander around my Art Garden, where flowers, nature, and a touch of whimsy inspire what I love to create. I hope you’ll find something that sparks your imagination, brings you joy, and invites you to explore your own creativity.
I’m so glad you’re here!
Some of my favorite things to paint are flowers and all things nature-inspired, with a touch of wonder sprinkled in. From painted petals to winged garden girls, and whimsical wearable art, I love creating pieces that have a story to tell and something meaningful to share.
My hope is that you’ll find something here that feels personal - a gift that says what words cannot, a message that meets you where you are, or a piece of art that simply makes you smile.
How My Garden Grew
Creativity has been part of my life since childhood. After a career in the medical field, I followed my love of art and opened The Painted Petal in the late 1990’s.
With more than 35 years of teaching locally and nationally, one of my greatest joys has been watching someone discover they really can create, and make something they’re proud of.
My work has also taken me into murals, custom painting, studio and set design, public television appearances with Donna Dewberry, and developing a nationwide DIY program for Lowes.
Through it all, flowers have remained a favorite subject - and encouragement has remained at the heart of my teaching.
What’s Blooming Now
Today, I’m making more room for my own artwork and the stories and messages that give it meaning.
The Art Garden brings together my painted creations, Whispers of Wisdom cards, whimsical wearable art and jewelry, along with creative experiences that encourage you to ignite your own creative spark.
Teaching will always hold a special place in my heart, I really enjoy helping people uncover their own creative possibilities. With plenty of encouragement, a little guidance, and lots of room to play, curiosity can lead you anywhere.
A Rose for Mom
My mom gave The Painted Petal its name. She loved my painted flowers, especially my roses, and was by my side through so much of this journey.
When she passed away in 2021, I lost my mom and my much-loved creative companion. Her beautiful spirit remains part of everything I create today.
For you, Mom, I will always paint another rose.
A few things you may not know
about me…
I am certified Reiki Master
Reiki is a gentle energy practice intended to promote relaxation, balance, and a sense of well-being. Many people experience it as a calming, supportive practice that encourages rest and self connection. Although I don’t practice Reiki professionally, it is a meaningful part of my personal life. Feel free to reach out to me if you’re curious about Reiki, I’d be happy to chat.
From Needles to Paintbrushes
Before paintbrushes became my tools of the trade, I worked in the medical field for many years. My specialties were home health, hospice care, and assisting in surgery. Painting was a wonderful stress reliever in those days, so much so, I decided to make it a full time career!
Gardening and Cooking
Cooking and gardening are right up there with painting for me. I love spending time in the garden growing herbs and vegetables, then being able to use them in my cooking. There is so much joy and satisfaction in cooking with something I’ve grown myself. And we can’t forget about baking - with four grandkids who love making cookies, sometimes you have to stop what you’re doing and bake up a batch of cookies!
